Mars Goldshtein's Legacy: From Loss to Lifelong Impact

A tribute to a remarkable life and a testament to the enduring power of dreams. Together, we can shape futures and create opportunities.

Life's Heroes

Life has a way of presenting us with heroes in the most unexpected ways.

Mars Goldshtein was one such hero, not just to his immediate family but to an entire community that cherished him deeply. In 2020, we faced the painful reality of living without Mars. He left behind memories and an inspiring story motivating us to act.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1984, Mars’s journey was nothing less than a testament to what determination, a relentless pursuit of one’s goals and the power of opportunity can manifest.

From his early school days at Jeppe Primary and later at St. Martin’s High School, his affection and talent for sports, particularly tennis, cricket, and rugby, was evident.

St. Martin's to Wits

His warm, confident, and playful nature made him a magnet for people from all walks of life.

After graduating with distinction at St. Martin’s his path took him to Wits University in 2003. His commitment, punctuated by part-time jobs and the generosity of donors, saw him through to becoming a qualified medical doctor in 2010.

His professional journey and personal life beautifully intertwined in Cape Town, where he worked at the renowned Groote Schuur Hospital.  It was during his time in Cape Town that he met his future wife, Carolyn.

Bursaries

Amidst the inspiring journey of Mars Goldshtein lies a crucial catalyst: the beautiful blend of undying dedication, hard work, and the gracious opportunities presented to him.

Mars was a testament to the power of perseverance and support.

The journey from Jeppe and St. Martins classrooms to the halls of Wits University and the esteemed corridors of medical practice was not a solo endeavor.

The winds of opportunity and encouragement supported it.

His fervent dedication found the soil to seed, root, and blossom through bursaries and acts of assistance.

The Mars Goldshtein Foundation is dedicated to fostering a spirit of mutual growth and personal ambition among young people.

“Many of us are willing to extend a helping hand, but we’re very reluctant to reach out for help when we need it ourselves. It’s as if we’ve divided the world into “those who offer help” and “those who need help.” The truth is that we are both.”
